What is PGR weed, and how to spot it?

Image
As the debate over genetically modified foods rages on, there is now concern about genetically modified weeds.  While genetically modified cannabis is not on the market, plant growth regulators (PGR) are being used to alter cannabis chemically.  PGRs are being used to control different aspects of plants' growth. These chemicals can be used to increase the size of different parts of the plant. For example, growers do this to increase fruit size, control flowering time, and better control the size of certain parts, such as roots or stems. The problem is that these plant growth regulators are often toxic chemicals that should not be eaten, let alone smoked. The concern is that unscrupulous growers are using these chemicals to increase profits at the expense of people's health.  PGR weed doesn't even have standard amounts of cannabinoids,  terpenes , and trichomes. In some cases, it may not even develop any THC.  The cannabinoids like  CBD and THC  are the...

Does Cannabis Help Treat Glioblastoma?

Image
Last year Lookah wrote an article about a UK trial to see if a   cannabis-based oral spray can treat brain tumors . The phase I trial with 27 patients was too small to provide any definitive answers. While there is still much work to do, it appeared from the phase I trial that results were encouraging enough for this proposed treatment to move to a phase II trial. Almost a year after first reporting on this, we are happy to see the trial get underway. This new study, named  ARISTOCRAT , is a phase II trial looking into whether combining the cannabis-derived oral spray Sativex with the chemotherapy drug Temozolomide works better than using Temozolomide alone for treating the aggressive brain cancer glioblastoma. The double-blind randomized trial aims to recruit 234 patients for 18 months. 2/3 of the patients will receive Temozolomide and Sativex, while 1/3 will receive Temozolomide and a placebo. Glioblastoma is a type of cancer that occurs in the brain or spinal cord. I...

Should You Put Ice Cubes In Your Bong?

Image
Both novices and marijuana connoisseurs can benefit from adding ice to a bong. It is a way to cool bong hits and enhance smoke sessions with frosty rips.  Bongs  are one of the most popular ways to smoke weed. They are probably the most iconic marijuana paraphernalia immortalized in film and pop culture.  Bongs come in various shapes and sizes and different materials. Basic bongs are made from acrylic or silicone, whereas more elaborate ones are made from glass. In essence, however, they all have similar cylindrical tube structures with wider bases designed to hold water. Many bongs have ice catchers, which are little notches placed in the neck of the bong to hold ice.    What are the advantages of putting ice in a bong? There are many benefits to adding ice to a bong Ice can cool your hits:  Bong rips can be harsh and cough-inducing, with hot smoke irritating the throat and lungs. This is where the ice comes in. As the smoke passes over the i...

The Science of Reverse Dabbing — Using The Cold Start Method

Image
The   cold start method of dabbing   is a perfect way to prevent the flavonoids and medicinal terpenes from vaporizing completely. Follow my blog with Bloglovin For those dabbers out there reading this article, you've probably heard of "cold start" dabbing already. If your not familiar with this, read on. Not that long ago, the cannabis press, blogs, and influencer world were all abuzz with cold start dabs. So what is it, I hear you ask?  It's a method to dab that starts from an unheated (hence the term "cold") nail. Place the concentrate in a nail (preferably a quartz banger), heat the device, and then inhale once those vapors start to rise out from the bubbling concentrate.  Regular Dabs Vs. Cold start Dabs Usually, the dabbing process begins by heating the nail, placing the concentrate on the hot nail, and immediately inhaling it.  Many dabbers will recommend that once your nail is heated, you wait ten seconds or more to allow it to cool a little ...
